Your big day is almost here. You’ve put in a lot of work, finalized a lot of plans, and now that the big stuff is done you can relax a little, right? Not so fast! While the big-ticket items might be squared away, as your wedding gets closer, there are going to be a lot of little details that you need to take care of – details you can’t afford to forget.
While these are small and likely won’t take as long some of the major plans and decisions, they are still important details and shouldn’t be overlooked before or on the big day. Here are some last-minute details that you should make sure to check off your list before you walk down the aisle.
Assign a Point Person
There are going to be unexpected things that come up on the big day. People will have questions about where to put their gifts. Someone will miss the seating chart and snag someone else’s seat. These are not problems the bride and groom should have to deal with.
Before the big day, assign a point person that will help take care of any small hiccups that arise, and who can address any questions or problems a guest might have. This role is perfect for a parent or the best man/maid of honor. Selecting someone in your wedding party can be helpful, in case they are asked a question they can’t answer they can easily – this way they have quick access to the bride or groom for the correct answer. It’s important to choose someone who can keep their cool, is familiar with all of the wedding-day details, and can handle the “little stuff” without involving the bride or groom if possible – but who also knows when it’s time to involve them.
Prepare Tip Envelopes
When the vendors have packed up at the end of the night, even if they’ve already been paid for their services, some will need to be tipped. Counting out tips based on bills and peeling bills from a wad of cash is not a job you want to be doing at the end of the night. To avoid this doing this task at the last minute, separate out your vendor tips ahead of time, and place them each in their own labeled envelopes. Entrust those envelopes to your point person, or another trusted individual, and let them pass them out at the end of the night. You might want to bring a little extra in case someone goes above and beyond and you want to tip more than you originally planned.
Our Suggestion: When you pay the vendors, make sure to get a signed receipt or payment confirmation so everyone is on the same page.
Final Dress Fitting
You’ll want to schedule your final dress fitting as close to your big day as possible, while making sure you’ll have time to make any last-minute alterations if needed. While your size may not change that much, you never know what little changes could impact the way your dress fits.
This is also a great time to test out your entire wedding-day look, from your hair and your jewelry to your shoes. Put the whole look together and make sure everything looks just the way you want it.
Our Suggestion: You might want to try going to the bathroom in your dress. Take one of your bridesmaids to make sure they know how to help if needed!
Confirm Delivery Times
To make sure everything runs smoothly on the day, confirm all the delivery times with your vendors before the big day. Try to space them out so that everybody doesn’t show up at once, and do it at a time when someone will be there to greet them and guide them. You could ask your assigned point person to be at the designated places at the right time to sign for deliveries and make sure they end up in the right spot.
Break In Your Shoes
Nothing can ruin a great day, or a great honeymoon, faster than a giant blister. While you’ll probably kick your shoes off as soon as you hit the dance floor, you don’t want those pretty new kicks to make you limp as you walk down the aisle. Pick a day or two before the wedding to work on breaking them in. You can just spend some time walking around your house while wearing them or go outside and try walking in the grass if you’re having an outdoor ceremony.
Pack for Your Honeymoon
Speaking of Honeymoons, if you’re leaving right after the wedding, make sure you are packed and ready to go before the wedding day. If the honeymoon and the wedding back up to each other, prepare for your honeymoon with a clear head and before the pre-wedding nerves and post-wedding exhaustion kicks in. At the very least, make sure you have your passport and other “can’t forget” items packed in your carry on a few days in advance.
